Chiang Rai Temples

Wat Phra Kaew is centrally located in the main town area and well kept. But most tourists to Chiang Rai (both Thai and Farang) will find themselves on the out skirts of Chaing Rai visiting one of Thailand's most modern and brilliant White temple aka "Wat Rong Khun".

Temples

Wat Phra Kaew ... 1300s Wat Paa Yia "Bamboo Monastry" ... has legendary octagon chedi that was struck by lightning in 1434 to reveal the Phra Kaew Morakot or "The Emerald Buiddha"

White Temple (วัดร่องขุ่น Wat Rong Khun) ... very modern temples one painted pure gold and one pure white and covered with small mirrors to make them very very bight in full sunlight.

Wat Jet Yot .... Seven Chedi Temple

Wat Phra Singh .... built 1300s under regin of King Mahaphrom

Wat Phra That Doi Thong ... hill top temple (NW outer Chiang Rai)

Wat Paa Kaw ... Shan/Burmese style temple (near old airport)
