Mae Sai Shopping

Mae Sai Thailand has a very unique and well built shopping street complex. The modern design and indoor feel of a walking street that is covered with a transparent blue roof winds around several city blocks near the river front. It is a duty free market area so you will see many imports from China and Burma. Before the market was built you had to cross-over the bridge into Burma to get the "special" prices. But now more less the same goods are for sale on both sides. The exception being DVDs and knock off cigarettes ... those are more visable on the Burma side. Add in the constant assalt from children beggars and there is very little advantage to doing your shopping in Tachileik Myanmar instead of Mae Sai.

Burma Jade ... rough jade stones, craved jade ornaments and statues.

Cheap Chinese Electronics ... most shops cater to this category and the emphasis is on "Cheap" price and quality.
