Mae Sai
Mae Sai (แม่สาย) is the most north part of all Thailand and right at the very edge of the border. Crossing the Mae Sai River and you are in Tachileik Myanmar. This is a very unique border town. Lots of hilltribes people literally walk down off the mountains of Burma into town to sell & beg. Within in the town numerous Burmese labor in the Thai shops (but are unable to travel further into Thailand due to road blocks). And there are often lots of Chinese tourists visiting. Really a tale-of-two cities (better small towns).

Wat Phra That Wai Dao ... hill top temple complex with great views and a giant scorpion.
Visa Run ... most Northern expats (Chiang Mai) cross over the boarder in Mae Sai Town. Good shopping and decent guesthouses.
